A Fond Farewell

Wyoming was certainly a magical place. Here I got a glimpse into what the wildlife of this beautiful country was like before it was touched by European hands. To end our trip, Alex and I had to take Andy to see some big grizzly bears. While we had seen one at a little distance in Yellowstone, this time we were getting up close and personal. We headed to the Bear and Wolf Discovery Center just across the state line in Montana. Here they keep grizzlies that have gotten in trouble and cannot remain in the wild (usually because people have fed them and they lose their natural aversion for things human). This huge male was happy to oblige us with some great views (Note: this is a captive animal unlike the wildlife shots I post).

After the magnificent bears and wolves, the last stop we made was at Harriman State Park in Idaho. Again, no disappointment here. We saw some amazing creatures - sandhill cranes, trumpeter swans, white pelicans and even a porcupine.

It was sad to say farewell to this Wyoming trip. Andy and Alex were great fun and there is no beating the intensity of Yellowstone's wildlife or the splendor of the Wind River Range.
